Leader announces CINEZONE luminance-monitoring software

At IBC 2007, Leader introduced CINELITE, a software-based option for Leader test instruments such as the LV5800. It provides ultra-friendly camera set-up facilities, allowing camera sensitivity to be set to full advantage. HD and film creatives were for the first time able to evaluate their lighting and exposure intuitively without needing detailed understanding of video waveforms.

"Leader's new CINEZONE extends easy and logical operation into the realm of luminance measurement, again with the objective of enabling programme-makers to evaluate their composition without having to resort to unfamiliar technical displays or measurements," explains Paul Vos, General Manager of elQuip BV, Broadcast Master Distributor for Leader Electronics Corporation in Europe. "Conventional waveform measurement is limited to one full line of video while CINEZONE offers real-time pixel accuracy across the entire image. It augments the full range of troubleshooting functionality found in Leader test instrumentation and enables a single unit to support programme-production staff as well as their technical-support colleagues."

CINEZONE uses the colour spectrum to represent luminance values on an otherwise normal and recognisable picture. It allows quick and easy confirmation of luminance levels without need for complicated waveform representations. Levels over the adjustable maximum are displayed in white, highlights in red, mid-greys in green, shadows in blue and levels under the adjustable minimum in black. This helps to confirm that the camera is actually delivering what is expected and, within just a minute or so of familiarisation, becomes more intuitive than the real-world picture.

CINEZONE can be viewed as one of four simultaneous test images on Leader's LV5800 studio monitor. It is also available on the LV5380 and LV5330 portable instruments which will be introduced at IBC 2008. Production of documentaries and movies can be equally assisted with these innovative and time-saving tools.
